The pest control industry has a bit of an image problem, and it's up to us - the pest control professional - to attract the next generation ...
Case Studies
The pest management industry still has an image problem when it comes to attracting people to it as a career - and it's up to all Pest Management Professionals to fix it.
We, as pest control companies, must pay attention to how our marketing messages come across not only to consumers, but also potential employees. When people think of our industry, many still have negative perceptions of what it is we do.
As individual companies, we have to do a better job of employment branding, meaning that we need to make sure people understand that there are career paths for people who join our industry.
The key is making sure that all members of the UK pest control industry deliver positive messages in all of our communications - both in advertising and marketing messages. We must also ensure that our employees exercise their tasks to a high standard and always serve their customers to the best of their ability.
People take away messages about how they'll be treated at your company every time they hear you communicate your message. If you want to get more highly skilled workers, you have to work out how to tailor your messages to be more positive.
In addition, it is important to reach out to primary school, secondary school and college / sixth form teachers and explain to them the advantages of the industry, including flexible work schedules, good pay and benefits.
Don't be afraid to get involved in your community and reach out to these people. They play a huge role in how our pest control industry is perceived, and right now many still have negative images of us. It's up to us to change it at local levels.
