When TV presenter Sarah Beeny stumbled across a moth infestation on her latest show, she knew exactly where to turn. Staff from Croydon-based pest control company Cleankill became stars of Help! My House is Infested as they tackled the mini-monsters on national television.
The crew took on the clothing-eating critters at Kate Grose's two-bedroom maisonette, and offered some top tips on how to rid homes of the pests.
"The common clothes moth and the case-bearing clothes moth are the ones that do the damage to textiles," remarked Cleankill director Paul Bates. "The key to successful eradication is to pinpoint the source of a moth infestation and remove it." Sources are primarily where the moths lay their eggs. For cloths moths, it is under sofas, behind pictures and beneath static furniture. For pantry moths, it is in food cupboards, bread bins and beneath refridgerators.
Of course, prevention is much better than cure so it is important to make sure that food is in air-tight containers, surfaces are cleaned regularly and items are moved around often to stop the moths from finding dark, quiet, undisturbed areas of your home to breed.
Paul said the show proved people should stick with their pest control contracts despite the country's current financial woes, as infestations are reaching "epidemic levels". He said: "We were really pleased to work with Sarah Beeny and her team help solve the moth problem for Kate. It was a great opportunity for us."
The company, which has been running since 1995, is a specialist provider of pest control services and deals with 'distress' pests such as wasps and fleas, as well as preventative maintenance against public health pests such as mice and rats.
